Scientists with a sense of humour

When scientists slog away in labs and come up with findings, they publish them in journals to share their work. Since scientific papers are highly technical and are usually not understood by the general audience, newsletters, magazines, media, or popular science blogs are used to present the findings in a way that can be understood by everyone. However, some scientists clearly have a sense of humour, and come up with witty titles (and topics as well) even while publishing in science journals. Here are some funny science articles that have been published in journals. Clearly, these scientists (and the journal editors) are having a lot of fun!

To begin with, here is a paper where the authors clearly are fans of J.K. Rowling.

These authors prefer Tolkien’s classic “The Lord of the Rings”.

And here’s one from the fairy tale “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”. Here, miR is a biomolecule, and its role in medulloblastoma (a type of brain cancer) is explained.

Whether you decide to spend the holidays with your in-laws or decide to just be alone, choose wisely. This has implications for your gut bacterial community!

Chemists are humourous too.

The role of brain tissue is analyzed in this paper. Clearly, grey matter in your brain is important!

The authors would have probably celebrated by doing the Gangnam dance after this was published!

Some good wordplay here. Actin is a protein found in muscle tissues.

Whatever you are, don’t be a narcissist!

Share your joys and sorrows with friends and family. Don’t be alone and sad. But that’s okay during leaf decomposition.

If this would have happened, Neils Bohr wouldn’t have been as famous as he went on to become.

Whatever said and done, a rose is a rose!

And finally, you can take your place on the left or right based on what you consider yourself to be!
